Broomfield is 13 miles from Boulder by road, approximately, and the tow truck gets there on US 36, the Denver-Boulder Turnpike. Two Broomfield exits matter when you call: Interlocken Loop, where the Northwest Parkway starts east, and the exit for US 287 and CO 121.

Broomfield covers about 33.5 square miles and reaches from the Turnpike on its west side to I-25 on its east, where CO 7 crosses the interstate at exit 229. Broomfield, with 74,112 people at the 2020 census, is Colorado's 64th county. Voters approved the constitutional amendment on November 3, 1998, and the City and County of Broomfield took effect on November 15, 2001, joining land that had been split among Adams, Boulder, Jefferson and Weld counties. The city council now also does the work of a board of county commissioners.

For a tow, the useful part is that the Broomfield Police Department also serves as the county's sheriff. There is no line between city police and a sheriff's patrol to sort out, so one call covers a missing car anywhere in Broomfield. The Northwest Parkway is a nine-mile toll road that opened on November 24, 2003 and ties US 36 at Interlocken to E-470 at I-25, north of 144th Avenue. It switched to free-flow tolling on January 1, 2010, so nobody stops at a booth; when the quickest route for a tow runs on it, we put the toll in the quote, one of the lines in what goes into a Broomfield quote.

US 287 comes up from Denver, turns west on 120th Avenue alongside CO 128, then bends north toward Lafayette just before US 36. CDOT, not the city, clears state highways such as US 287 and 120th Avenue in a storm.

Then there are the places cars sit all day: FlatIron Crossing, a large shopping and entertainment center; the offices of the Interlocken business park; and Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport. A dead battery at the end of a cold day in one of those lots is a jump start, not a tow.

Broomfield clears major roadways first, then secondary roads. Residential streets are plowed by depth: one lane once snow reaches 4 inches, two lanes at 12 inches or more. Between those two figures a side street is a single plowed track with packed snow on both sides, and that is where cars slide into the ridge or spin at the curb.

The upslope storm of March 13-14, 2021 left 22.5 inches at the National Weather Service reporting point a mile northwest of Broomfield. After a storm like that a stuck car needs a pull back onto the plowed lane first and a tow only if something broke; all-wheel-drive and electric cars then leave on the flatbed.

If the plow has not reached your street yet, say so on the call. A flatbed needs a clear stretch to lay its bed down, and on a single plowed lane the truck may have to load from the far end of the block.
