Louisville is nine miles out by McCaslin or South Boulder Road
The drive is about 9 miles. Louisville calls itself nine miles east of Boulder and about 22 miles northwest of Denver. Our tow truck can come in two ways, and your location chooses:
- US 36, then McCaslin Boulevard. The Turnpike exit marked for Superior and Louisville, leading into the McCaslin commercial corridor, which runs from US 36 north to Via Appia Way.
- South Boulder Road. The surface route from Boulder to Lafayette, picked up at the US 36 interchange with Table Mesa Drive and Foothills Parkway. Its Louisville business strip runs roughly from Garfield Road to Etna Drive.
Even on a short run, the tow truck has to pull up in your direction of travel, so give us your heading. The window we set by phone allows for US 36 traffic and weather. After dark, a Louisville job costs the same as at noon.
Outside the city limits, the Boulder County Sheriff patrols the unincorporated land, and it polices Superior, across US 36, by contract. On either side of that line, a missing car starts with the same number Louisville uses.
McCaslin Boulevard crosses US 36 on a diverging diamond
Crossover lanes at McCaslin
Between Louisville and Superior, the McCaslin Boulevard interchange on US 36 became Colorado's second diverging diamond when the new pattern opened October 19, 2015. On the bridge, traffic switches to the opposite side of the road so ramp turns flow without waiting on oncoming cars, and bus ramps built alongside keep buses out of the general merge. Traffic moves well, but a stalled car on the bridge sits on the unfamiliar side. Tell us your direction on McCaslin and whether you had reached the crossover.
Downtown, CO 42 and South Boulder Road
CO 42 runs on 95th and 96th Streets, south from CO 7 in northwest Lafayette into Louisville, then east on Empire Road to US 287. South Boulder Road cuts across Louisville toward Lafayette. The historic downtown, an eight-block commercial center, has two-hour, unlimited and seasonal parking. Leave the headlights on through a long evening there and you have a dead-battery call.
Two big lots fill up all day: AdventHealth Avista Hospital, and the Colorado Technology Center, the city's largest commercial and industrial park at more than 400 acres. After a long, cold shift, cars there come back with weak batteries, which calls for roadside jump service.
Boulder Regional dispatch takes Louisville's towed-car calls
Louisville's police department is at 992 Via Appia Way, 303-666-8634. Both 911 and the non-emergency line, 303-441-4444, ring at the Boulder Regional Communications Center, which dispatches for most of Boulder County, Louisville among them. When a Louisville car goes missing from the street, that line is the first call. The agency that ordered a tow holds the details, and the PUC sends owners there first to learn which company has the car.
Towed from an apartment complex lot? Following the PUC's suggestion, check the lot for the towing company's signs and call the company they name. Those tows are nonconsensual, regulated by Colorado's towing rules, 4 CCR 723-6, and the carrier must return your personal property free on request within 30 days of notice. Snow removal follows four priorities. Priority 1: major arterials. 2: collectors. 3: residential through streets. 4: all other residential streets, cul-de-sacs included. Priorities 1 and 2 get cleared once snow tops 2 inches, and all four at 4 inches or more. Cul-de-sacs are last, since they need a smaller truck with a V-plow. The National Weather Service counted 22.0 inches in Louisville from the March 13-14, 2021 storm, and 25.6 inches two miles west-southwest of town. After that much snow, a car stuck at the end of a cul-de-sac needs a winch-out ahead of the plow.
Parking-garage clearance can decide a Louisville tow
Some Louisville tows cross town to your mechanic; others run to a dealer in Boulder or Denver. Either way, the drivetrain chooses the tow truck.
